White Priviledge

White Privilege

By Sarah Hill

Do you even want to know

What is beneath

This false exterior,

Just out of reach

Of your privilege

And born success?

Do you care

To see the world

In all its emptiness?

Reach Reach

Into the land

Of oppression and lies.

Try to stand

In the mud

And walk as fast as the man

On cement.

It’s not fair.

Welcome to the real world!

Do you even want to know

What it’s like

To be told you’re nothing

And expected to fly?

To be fed only dust

And expected to grow?

To sit in defeat;

You don’t even know

What it’s like.

Reach Reach

Into the land

Of oppression and lies.

Try to stand

In the mud

And walk as fast as the man

On cement.

It’s not fair

Welcome to the real world!

Open your eyes!

Or are you afraid

Of what you might see?

Of what you might hear?

Of what you might feel?

Are you afraid that you might digress?

“No, it’s not fair”

And see the emptiness.

You don't even know

What it's like.

I won't ever know

What it's like!
